Staged supply is the process by which pharmacists supply medicines to consumers in periodic instalments of less than the total required or prescribed quantity at agreed intervals. A staged supply service is aimed at improving the safety and efficacy of medicine use in vulnerable consumers. The service is of particular value to patients with a mental illness, drug dependency or who are otherwise unable to manage their medicines safely. Instalments are supplied at agreed intervals, which may be daily, weekly or as directed by the prescriber.
For the purposes of the PPI Program Staged Supply is the provision of PBS medicines in instalments where requested by the prescriber. Staged Supply services specifically exclude medicines supplied under the Section 100 Opiate Dependence Treatment Program.
An incentive payment will be paid annually to Eligible Community Pharmacies participating in this priority area that meet the Program requirements and QCPP accreditation requirements for offering a Staged Supply service.
To receive an annual incentive payment for this PPI priority area, you MUST complete and lodge a valid PPI Annual Payment Eligibility Declaration (Declaration) (attachment to the QCPP T1A) to QCPP when the T1A is due each year as part of your pharmacy’s accreditation cycle.
