Funding Opportunities

Research and Development topics selected under the Fifth Agreement draw on the outcomes of previous research projects funded under the Third and Fourth Agreement, research topics considered but not funded under the Fourth Agreement, an ‘Identifying Research Gaps’ workshop held as part of the Pharmacy Practice Research Summit in Canberra, March 2010 hosted by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and national priority areas consistent with the current health reform agenda. 

In addressing the objectives in Request for Tender documents the applicant must: 

  • Demonstrate effective stakeholder consultation by providing evidence that widespread consultation with a diverse but appropriate range of stakeholders will be undertaken;
  • Take into consideration previous work undertaken in this area, particularly work undertaken as part of previous R&D Programs. It is strongly recommended that tenderers are familiar with the findings of the Third Community Pharmacy Agreement and Fourth Community Pharmacy Agreement  R&D projects, where applicable; and
  • Demonstrate how the framework of themes (Quality Use of Medicines, Collaboration, Consumer Focus and Application) will be addressed in the research project.

Closed Funding opportunities:

Research topics have been identified and developed to address service gaps and areas of interest in the area of community pharmacy.  Commissioned projects will address six topic areas:

RFT2010/11-01 Consumer Needs - The purpose of this project is to collect qualitative and quantitative data on consumer expectations and consumer needs in relation to managing their health with support from the network of community pharmacies in the context of healthcare reform.

Closing date for the above application is Thursday, 3 November 2011 at 2pm.

RFT2010/11-02 Mental Health - The purpose of this project is to develop a comprehensive training package for pharmacists to assist mental health consumers in the area of medication compliance.

RFT2010/11-03 Rural Pharmacy Workforce - The purpose of this project is to undertake research to examine the rural and remote pharmacy workforce and its impact on access to pharmacy services at a local level.

Closing date for the above applications was 2pm, Thursday 28 April 2011.

RFT2010/11-04 Health Literacy - The purpose of this project is to undertake research in health literacy and the role community pharmacy can play in improving consumer outcomes through tailored communication of health information.

RFT2010/11-05 Professional Integration - The purpose of this project is to gather data from a variety of sources on the best practice model for the professional integration of community pharmacists in the primary health care setting.

RFT2010/11-06 Chronic Illness - The purpose of this project is to investigate the consumer perspective on the burden of chronic disease, and the role that community pharmacy can play in assisting them better manage their condition/s.
